The first Craft Mafia was founded in 2003 by nine crafty buisness women in Austin, TX. The group originally came together through a shared love for craft, DIY ethics and mutual respect. As the Craft Mafia developed it became a forum for networking, promotion and shared ideas.
Independent entrepreneurs Teresa Salazar of Velvet Klaw, Penni Hawkins of p-starr products, and Svea Komori of Belle Pepper Couture began collaborating as a group in the summer of 2007. The San Diego North Park Craft Mafia was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the summer of 2008 and received 501(c)6 status in 2011. The group was founded with the intent of DIY businesses working together to promote and encourage each other while celebrating the individual talents of each member. Our group is dedicated to the support of each other, as well as that of North Park, a growing community in San Diego that upholds arts, culture and entertainment while preserving its unique history. We are proud to be a member of the international Craft Mafia family! |
